Tai chi is one of the ‘soft’ martial arts of China, although nowadays most people practise it for the same reason they do qigong – physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing.
With its emphasis on muscle release and body awareness, tai chi is sometimes referred to as ‘moving meditation’.
Qigong (chee-gong) cultivates the ‘three treasures’ of body, breath and mind with a wide variety of traditional methods. It is practised for health and wellbeing, physical strength and mobility and to benefit sporting, martial and dance skills.
Both tai chi and qigong can be learnt at any age and level of fitness.
